TORONTO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/19/12 --
- The school will extend collaborative communication capabilities campus wide -- removing technology bottlenecks and supporting 21st century classroom design
- Delivers a ready way to deploy new applications and embrace "bring your own device" trends by securely managing the laptops, tablets and smart phones students bring to campus
Avaya, a global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions and services, today announced that Rothesay Netherwood School in New Brunswick, Canada, has selected Avaya to build a next-generation, collaborative network that removes technology bottlenecks and supports the school's innovative approach to collaborative learning.
An independent, co-educational boarding and day school for grades 6 to 12, Rothesay Netherwood draws students from around the globe. The school's aging network infrastructure was unable to keep up with its 21st century demands, limiting online collaboration inside and outside the classroom. Some buildings lacked network connectivity, while some classrooms lacked phones. The school provides laptops for each student, but had no easy way to enable secure network access to the personal tablets, laptops and smart phones that students increasingly bring with them to campus.
With a new Avaya network, Rothesay Netherwood will be able to deliver anytime, anywhere, any device learning. Wireless coverage will allow the school to deliver unified communications capabilities across its entire 200-acre campus -- opening up new possibilities for both staff and students.
Teachers will be able to build additional online learning resources into lesson plans, participate in online professional development activities and collaborate with each other more readily across the campus. Students will be able to connect with other children around the world, readily conduct Web research and collaborate on projects both inside and outside the classroom.
The school's technology roadmap includes Avaya video capabilities that will enable students to watch movies streamed to the school theater or allow parents to view an online broadcast of their child playing hockey in the Rothesay Netherwood sports arena.
Applications will be device independent and accessed over the school's new network. Rothesay Netherwood will also be able to add student-owned devices to its network and manage them securely -- segmenting academic traffic from "guest" traffic.
Key Components of the Avaya Solution
At the core of the solution for Rothesay Netherwood School is the Avaya Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA), which dramatically simplifies network design, deployment and management, while providing the resiliency and performance required to support real-time, high-bandwidth applications. The underlying infrastructure includes Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 5000 Series and 4000 Series, Avaya Wireless LAN 8100 Series, Avaya Identity Engines and Avaya Configuration and Orchestration Manager software to manage the network.
Avaya IP Office 500, a unified communications solution for small to midsized organizations, will deliver campus-wide collaboration. Teachers and staff members will be able to use Avaya IP phones, a cell phone tethered to their office line, or a smartphone application on a PC, tablet or laptop to remain accessible anywhere they travel.
The Avaya solution for Rothesay Netherwood School was designed and sold by NetAdmins, an Avaya Connect Channel Partner.
This announcement highlights Avaya's commitment to bringing The Power of We to every Avaya customer to help drive faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results.
