The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization driving global innovation for phone-centric car connectivity solutions, today announced that more than 40 MirrorLink™-enabled products are now available to consumers around the world. Developed by CCC members, MirrorLink is a car-connectivity standard for controlling a nearby smartphone from the steering wheel or via dashboard buttons and screens.
In addition, the CCC is currently demonstrating MirrorLink at the LA Auto Show’s Advanced Technology Showcase, presented by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. The showcase takes place November 28-29 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
“Wide-ranging product availability is a critical component of MirrorLink’s success,” said Mika Rytkonen, chairman and president of the CCC. “Now, less than two years after the CCC’s inception, we are watching the connected-car ecosystem rally around a standard whose innovation and ease of use offer a fresh alternative to legacy infotainment platforms. Not only does MirrorLink make car/smartphone connectivity more intuitive for consumers, its adherence to Auto Alliance guidelines for driver distraction makes it one of the strongest methods to increase safety on today’s roads.”
Located in booth CF2 of the Advanced Technology Showcase, the CCC will demonstrate a MirrorLink-enabled Sony® XAV 701HD paired with a Nokia E7 smartphone. The combination offers a powerful glimpse into the future of car connectivity.
“MirrorLink product availability also provides key incentive for mobile application developers to build along the standard,” said Alan Ewing, executive director of the CCC. “Starting in Q1 2013, app developers will have open access to MirrorLink, followed by what we expect to be an explosion of apps with built-in drive mode for consumers to enjoy. In 2013 we also expect more automakers to line-fit MirrorLink in their infotainment stacks, which essentially sets up consumers for the ultimate MirrorLink experience.”
