Consumer Cellular, rated the number one cell phone service for the third consecutive year and the exclusive wireless provider for AARP members, has earned a spot on Inc. Magazine’s “Hire Power” list of the nation’s top job creators. Adding 347 jobs from 2008-2011, Consumer Cellular ranked as the 68th largest job creator in the nation and the second largest in the telecommunications industry.
“We are thrilled to be included on this list and among some great companies who are growing and hiring,” said John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. “We’ve continued to grow during some challenging economic years because of our people and the value they provide for our customers, and we’ll continue to build on that success by hiring more great people. It’s been a win-win for our customers and our company.”
Consumer Cellular has experienced rapid growth over the past several years, adding subscribers who are looking for affordable cell phone plans and reliable customer service. The company has been hiring employees to meet that demand, opening its third customer service center this August in Redmond, Ore., where they plan to have 150 employees by the end of 2012. The company also has contact centers located in Phoenix and at its headquarters in Portland, Ore.
The inclusion on Inc. Magazine’s prestigious “Hire Power” list is Consumer Cellular’s second inclusion in the magazine this year. The publication also recognized the company in its annual Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies (by revenue) in the country. Methodology
The Inc. Hire Power list measures the number of jobs added from 2008 through 2011. To qualify, companies must have been founded before January 1, 2008, and be U.S.-based, privately held, and independent. Additionally, companies must have had at least 50 full-time U.S.-based employees in 2011. Employees are defined as those who are working a minimum of 30 hours per week and receiving benefits from the company. Qualifying full-time and part-time employees are included; independent contractors are not.
