DALLAS, Jan. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Dallas Phones LLC dba EcoPhones, the company that began pioneering cell phone recycling more than a decade ago, today announced that it has received the Responsible Recycling (R2) , ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications.

The certifications, along with stringent annual accredited 3rd party compliance audits, guarantee that the e-waste collected from EcoPhones' 50,000+ retailers, manufactures, corporations, schools and churches will have all data destroyed and be safely and responsibly recycled.
"As phones become 'smarter' the need to purge or destroy the data on them has become paramount. Our partners have always trusted us to destroy their data but with our R2 certification they can bank on it" according to Walter Engelbrecht, EcoPhones' Chief Operating Officer.
The R2 Standard, developed in collaboration with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over a three year period, is an accreditation standard that keeps recyclers accountable, offers a seal of approval for responsible recyclers and waste management companies, protects employees throughout the supply chain, and protects the people in the developing world from being exposed to e-waste – something that EcoPhones' has always prided itself on.
"We're committed to the health and safety of not only our own employees but to those that receive our materials as well' says Jennifer Parra, EcoPhones' CIO & Environmental Health & Safety Manager. R2 requires downstream due diligence on all vendors handling recycled materials to ensure materials are handled properly throughout the chain of custody. "EcoPhones does not export e-waste to developing countries" added Ms. Parra.
"EcoPhones pioneered household electronics recycling. While other companies charged money (many still do) EcoPhones has always been ahead of the curve by providing cash incentives and the convenience of free mail-in recycling" according to Mr. Engelbrecht. EcoPhones' success over the past decade has spawned several competitors. "They say imitation is the best form of flattery. Our R2 certification raises the bar yet again."
