CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 01/28/13 -- WeatherNation TV, Inc., a 24/7 television network providing local, regional and national weather, announced today the debut of WeatherNation TV on KM Communications' WOCK-TV on digital channel 13.4 and Comcast cable channel 392 in the greater Chicago area.
WeatherNation TV made the announcement today at the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) conference in Miami. With the launch of WeatherNation in Chicago, Boston and Seattle this month, WeatherNation has quickly added an additional 7.5 million TV households.
"WeatherNation is a 24/7 network that brings important weather news to nearly 3.5 million Chicago households," said Donald Bae, General Manager of WOCK. "Broadcasting from the top of the Hancock Tower in digital format, WOCK-TV will deliver local, regional and national weather news across Chicago. With WeatherNation TV's iPhone app, our viewers have greater access to weather alerts on mobile devices as well."
The WeatherNation TV network delivers continuous coverage of current weather events with stunning graphics and detail. A team of experienced meteorologists utilizes the latest technologies from VIPIR® Systems from Baron Services and HD Fusion from Weather Central for forecasting and illustrating current conditions with engaging and innovative 3D graphical mapping to help viewers understand the in-depth story behind the weather. A powerful severe weather tracking system also gives consumers a detailed visual assessment, from the satellite view down to street-level detail.
WeatherNation TV is also available as an easy-to-use, feature-packed weather app for iPhone® users. This robust app is available free from the Apple App Store and uniquely works in concert with WeatherNation's 24/7 TV channel.
"Chicagoans take their weather reports very seriously as the variations in weather from Naperville to the Lakefront can be startling, particularly with the significant factor of the lake effect," said WeatherNation TV's Chief Meteorologist Paul Douglas. "Having worked at WBBM-TV and NewsRadio 780 in the 90s, I realize the importance of delivering reliable meteorological information for residents of the Windy City. We've observed over the last two years the most severe weather ever recorded across the U.S. In our increasingly extreme weather environment, we strongly believe there's a place for a 24/7 local channel devoted to meteorology, and we are very excited to be launching WeatherNation in Chicago."
"We're pleased to introduce WeatherNation into the third largest U.S. market and deliver a robust TV weather network and mobile phone app for around-the-clock forecasts and current conditions from a team of professional, degreed, certified meteorologists to tell the Chicago weather story accurately and consistently," said Michael Norton, president of WeatherNation TV. "With the addition of KM Communication's WOCK-TV, our list of broadcast stations seeking a consistent and accurate weather news service continues to grow."
