SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/29/06 -- Privately owned and only available for corporate or private charter, the Grand Dame of the America's Cup is soon to become available to the general public for limited "once in a lifetime" sailing experiences.
The California whale migration in the waters off San Diego is a popular viewing phenomenon and cause for the operators of the "America" to let the public combine a unique sailing opportunity and viewing experience. "This is not just any Whale Watching trip," explains Warren Allan, Marketing Director for "Next Level Sailing," the yacht's operators. "This is a very unique opportunity for the public to take advantage of a limited invitation aboard this super-famous yacht. Every day hundreds of people take photographs of the yacht as they pass her marina berth. She is available for charter, but the general public can only dream of being invited along for such an event and for many it would never happen. For a limited time we're happy to make some of those dreams come true."
The "America" is an iconic 139-foot sailing vessel and represents a breathtaking piece of maritime history. The yacht is a painstaking replica of the original "America," which in 1851 stunned the world with an amazing coup -- winning the legendary sailing race which now bears her name. The America's Cup is now the oldest active sporting trophy in the world. Offering a highly accurate depiction of what is probably the most famous racing yacht in history, the America provides an exciting and dynamic addition to the San Diego harbor. "Her nickname 'The Low Black Schooner' certainly does justice to her sweeping good looks, and accentuated by the huge gold Eagle on her stern and the gold plated "America" name upon her bow, she is something to see," says Allan.
"America" is a superb sailing vessel... reaching speeds in excess of 16 knots. She also makes a superb platform for guests eager to see Whales up close while experiencing a fast ocean-going yacht of this unique caliber. The "America" provides exceptional stability on the ocean by comparison to traditional whale watching motor yachts. A full length keel 10 feet below the surface reduces the ocean's rolling effect for those prone to motion sickness, and her ability to sail close to these great mammals without using a disturbing engine noise is complementary to the entire experience.
The San Diego Whale migration season runs from mid-December to end of March. The "America" is available on weekends only throughout January and February. Accommodating 80 guests the yacht is expected to be in steep demand through these limited weekend trips. The yacht offers fine accommodations, a large galley and dining area and ample comfort facilities for large parties. Trips will depart at 11 AM and return at 3 PM.
Yacht Available for Private Parties, Business Events
The yacht rents for private and corporate events up to 80. Weddings are very popular including a 'Bridal Suite' for the 'overnight' wedding package. Regattas for groups up to 120 are also available with two modern America's Cup yachts, "Stars and Stripes" and "Abracadabra." Fine catering is available.
