J2ME Now in NeedTEXT Shell Wireless System Administration Tool for BlackBerry

(April 16, 2003) - System administrators and other IT staff can now securely access their servers and networks from RIM's Java-based BlackBerry handhelds, using NeedTEXT Shell software from Epoch Integration Inc.

NeedTEXT Shell software operating on the BlackBerry wireless platform provides a behind-the-firewall solution that enables the handheld to securely access a command-line interface, allowing IT users to manage servers, routers, and other network equipment. Administrators can use all of their standard command-line tools such as telnet, SSH, and FTP, to detect, diagnose, and fix problems from anywhere within wireless network coverage. As a result, IT staff have the ability to significantly reduce system downtime by reacting to problems quickly, even if they are away from the office.

With the J2ME release, NeedTEXT Shell now serves a global market by supporting BlackBerry users on GSM/GPRS, Nextel, and CDMA2000 1X wireless networks worldwide. This version of NeedTEXT Shell operates through the Mobile Data Service feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server, allowing organizations to leverage the security of their existing BlackBerry infrastructure.

More about NeedTEXT Shell can be found at www.needtext.net.
