Rich Internet Applications offer the potential to fundamentally change the user experience and in doing so, yield significant business benefits. The theme of this October's AJAX World Conference & Expo 2008 West is 'Beyond AJAX to the RIA Era' and the Call for Papers, which is still open, specifically encourages submissions from exceptional speakers with high-quality use cases of the fast-emerging RIA alternatives.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Invites Governor Sarah Palin to Russia

Her Dubai vacation was fully paid for by Dick Cheney's Dubai-based oil company Halliburton, which also sells $1,000 dollar-a piece-lobsters and Haagen Dazs ice cream to 250,000 troops in Iraq. The Iraq bill for taxpayers is currently running at $5 billion per month. If Sarah Palin is elected, she needs to meet with Halliburton executives in Dubai more often as she will be taking over this defense duty from Dick Cheney.

Choosing the Right Mobile SDK and Platform for Your Application

I am currently of the mindset that Android should be considered a wait and see technology. The iPhone SDK sports the best mobile application deployment and purchasing channel on the market, but can be problematic for enterprises and apps requiring high levels of security. Also, there is some risk in building an app that might be rejected. The .NET Compact Framework is a tried and true, proven mobile development framework that provides a relatively easy way to build apps for Windows Mobile devices. It takes some effort to make your Windows Mobile apps look decent, but you get the benefits of a huge community, re-use of your C#/.NET skills, great tools and more.

Apple Drops the iPhone NDA for Released Software

Rest assured that I'll be commenting further on this subject, but I wanted to post letting people know that the floodgates are about to open. I'm guessing iPhone bloggers are going to start posting massive amounts of code samples in the coming days. Good times for all... It's just a shame that Apple took so long to open the doors. I feel really bad for the authors who had to change their writing plans and even change the content of their books to accommodate Apple's resistance to lifting the NDA.

The first Android phone, known as the Dream and built by HTC, is reportedly supposed to hit the crowded mobile market probably in a month after being announced Tuesday, September 23 by T-Mobile USA, the Deutsche Telekom arm. The price will reportedly be $199 with a two-year contract. The Wall Street Journal says HTC expects to ship 600k-700k units.

$3.5 Billion Criminal Hedge Fund Scam to Surface This Week?

Apparently, one of the most brilliant multi-billion dollar financial scams of this decade is unfolding as we speak, and one since Senator John MacCain's close friend Charles Keating puled one together in 1980s, who at the time stole roughly $8 billion and spent less than two years in jail for his crime.

Do Not Buy Your BlackBerry From AT&T

I am one of the very first BlackBerry users - I've been one since 1997 when it was first introduced at the annual JavaOne Conference in San Francisco. Since then I went through more BlackBerries probably than even JetBlue founder David Neeleman. With all the love and around-the-clock use, comes basic maintenance as well, I guess. Recently, the trackball in my Pearl jammed. We called AT&T support, they rushed me a replacement unit, overnight. (After all my monthly BlackBerry charges as a world traveler/CEO run to around $1,500 each and every month.)

Canonical has nicknamed the future Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, a jackalope being an imaginary creature said to be a cross between a jackrabbit and an antelope. Picture a bunny rabbit with antlers like the star of “Boundin.” Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth says Jaunty, which he describes as a “warrior rabbit” – fit to take on Microsoft and Apple – has to boot “as fast as possible” to live up to its name and blur web services and desktop applications into jackalope-like “weblications.” Meanwhile, Intrepid Ibex, Ubuntu 8.10, is due out the end of next month.

From Enterprise to Cloud, Virtualization Today on SYS-CON.TV

The Shape of iPhone Content (And Other Devices) To Come?

Orientation-Specific Content is exactly what it sounds like: based on the orientation of a user's device, the content on the screen changes accordingly. You can detect the orientation via JavaScript in iPhone's Safari browser and allow your content to react to it in one way or another. I can think of a multitude of ways to implement this as a design tactic.

Does the iPhone Over-Use Numeric Status Indicators?

I did notice something today that concerns me though. It's about the use of and best practices around the numeric indicators that are attached to my iPhone icons.

New Testing Approaches for Mobile Phone Quality

Unlike wireline service, mobile phones rely on often precarious over-the-air radio transmissions to carry time-sensitive voice traffic. Add to this the transforming of voice calls into IP-routed traffic; microphones and speakers disconnected from the device via Bluetooth; high-bandwidth competition from e-mail, data, and video downloads – plus multiple hand-offs between network elements, like routers, switches, and gateways – and there’s a Pandora’s box of traps in the transaction where voice quality can degrade.

RFID Prospering at All Levels

VeriFone has just taken an order for 20,000 readers for the Australian Cabcharge taxi payment cards.

Opinion: Do Google Android Mobile Apps Lack Consistency?

iPhone Developer's Journal - AppleInsider Reveals Details of My WWDC Presentation

An NDA is something that you volunteer for, it is willful act, you must choose to agree to the terms of the NDA. No one is forcing you to do it, there are no guns pointed at your head. If you do not like or agree with the terms of the NDA, then do not sign it. However, if you do choose to sign it, then, in my opinion, you lose the right to bitch and moan about the fact that you cannot divulge privileged information. We all knew what we were getting into when we agreed to the iPhone Developer Program NDA, and we all know that when you buy a WWDC ticket, you are bound by an NDA that covers every word overhead, every word displayed, every piece of content in that conference with the exception of the keynote. If we really feel so strongly that these NDAs are overbearing and excessive, then we have the right to voice our disapproval by NOT agreeing to them.

I graduated from Bogazici Universitesi in 1982, from a four year Business Administration program which took five years for me. During my five year tenure at the world's best university campus, I was mostly busy with the exctracurricular activities than the academics program.
Android Won't Be Home for Xmas

Android, due in the second half, could reportedly be delayed until Q4 or maybe even next year, according to the tale the Wall Street Journal tells, a situation that opens up a can of worms for Google.
